Three scenarios, one line to choose
Expedition Game
A simulation you play rather than read. Three scenarios built from real conditions, a handful of resources and choices with consequences. Nobody dies, but plenty of expeditions turn back.
The scenarios
Danakil DepressionThe Salt RoadThree days in the Danakil with a convoy that has its own ideasPlay
SvalbardThe Ice EdgeFour days in Longyearbyen in April, snowmobiles and a weather window that keeps movingPlay
SocotraThe CrossingSeven days on Socotra between two flights, with a guide, a driver and no signalPlay
Each scenario starts with three resources: water, time and morale, each on a scale of ten. Every choice moves them. Reach the end of the scenario with all three above zero and you finish the expedition; run one down and the scenario ends the way that resource ends real trips. There are no dice; the outcomes are the model’s reading of the choice.
The scenarios are built from the place pages: the Danakil’s convoys and heat, Svalbard’s weather windows and bears, Socotra’s flight schedule and roads. Nothing in them is invented for drama, which is why they are harder than they look.
The Simulation Brief
One place, one simulator, one honest number. Every second Sunday.
No newsletter theatre. A short e-mail with the place we modelled, what the model said and what the ground said back.
