Island

Three islands that isolation made strange: dragon’s blood trees on a Yemeni island with one flight a week, eighteen basalt islands in the North Atlantic where the weather rewrites every day, and the archipelago where the animals never learned fear.

An island on this site is a place that evolved alone. Socotra spent twenty million years inventing its plants, the Galápagos its animals, the Faroes a way of living on grass and basalt in the North Atlantic. Isolation is the reason to go and the reason the logistics are hard: one flight a week, one ferry a day, one boat if the wind allows.

The Journey Simulator is the tool for this realm because the flight schedule sets the trip length before you do; the model starts from the day you can leave and works back.

Which island week?

Questions people ask

Which island first?

The Faroes: two hours from Copenhagen, a hire car and a hotel bed. Galápagos needs a week and a budget; Socotra needs the Wednesday flight and a taste for camping.

Is Socotra safe?

The island has been calm and separate from the mainland war, with trips running since 2019. Research it the week before and fly the Abu Dhabi route, the only one.

How strict are the Galápagos rules?

Two metres from every animal, marked paths, a licensed guide at every site, and fines and ejections that are enforced. The rules are why the animals are still tame.

The Simulation Brief

One place, one simulator, one honest number. Every second Sunday.

No newsletter theatre. A short e-mail with the place we modelled, what the model said and what the ground said back.
